Aww

My lizred may have to be put down, because he is A) blind from dead skin that got into his eyes, and B) the absess on his -rear- isnt getting any better, and C) he has used up all of his fat resourses in his tail, so we may have to put him down.. he cant see to eat... we tried force-feeding, everything.

Am I doing the right thing?

  • A vet could probably remove the skin from his eyes, I've seen it done on Animal Cops many times with snakes and lizards.

You could use Fluker's Repta*Aid critical care formula Insectivore/Carnivore Emergency Aid. Its meant to be given to reptiles that haven't eaten or drank in long periods of time; its a supplement that'll provide energy and fluids. Its a powder, you mix it with water, it even comes with a feeding syringe.

As for his tail growth, has that been checked out by a vet? If so, what did the vet say it was? Has he ever dropped his tail before?

(He's a gecko, right? Or am I thinking of someone else?)
    Bye.
  • Yeah, hes a leapord gecko.

The vet couldent remove it--

Where can we get the Repta*Aid?

  • Did the vet say what exactly it was? If all else fails, he could drop his tail and poof...grow back a new one, no more growth. But he'd definitely need the supplement if he drops his tail.

You can usually just pick some up at Petco. That's where I got mine :3 Walked in, grabbed it, paid, walked out. Nice and simple. I haven't had to use it, but its good to have around just in case.
    Bye.
  • no, the vet said nothing, and he hasnt dropped his tail.

Thanks, Kite, I will have mom pick it up.

  • No problem, I hope he's feeling better soon.

I wouldn't recommend encouraging him to drop his tail (pulling on it, etc) just thought I'd put that out there just in case :P

If you can't take him to the vet about the skin on his eyes...
With snakes, they need lots of moisture when they shed their skin. Its even recommended to soak them in lukewarm water as they're ready to shed. When a snake doesn't shed the skin on its eyes, a vet can gently rub water on the eyes and the skin usually comes off. I'm not positive about geckos though, so I'd look it up or call and ask the vet if you plan to try this at home.
    Bye.
  • Ok.

This is the part where Im glad I play VP xD

  • Repti-aid works great for Leo's. I use it now for a sickly one of mine, and it helps alot. Misting will help the skin, and a leo can easily live in captivity blind, as long as you know how to take care of it. I have 2 blind geckos, who live nice life ^^

If you have any problems with the repti-aid, feel free to PM me, I have a few tricks which usually make them open up :)
