Easy GIMP Tutorials for Beginners

I decided I'd share my secrets!</span> <br><br><span style="font-size:150"><span style="font-weight:bold">If you have any questions about anything on here, PM me or Post here. If you see the > sign between words, (Filters>Blur>Gaussian Blur), it means you click on Filters, click on blur, click on gaussian blur. <br>2.) FG-Means Foreground<br>3. BG-Means background<br>4. FG & BG are the two black/white boxes located on your GIMP <br>5. FG is normally black<br>6. Create a new image: 620x240 fill with Black<br>2. Enter text (make sure it’s white) Sans Bold 50x<br>3. Center text with the centering tool (a cross with arrows on end)<br>4. Layer>Layer to image size<br>5. Filters>Distorts>Iwarp<br>6. Just warp the text up, down, up, down (regular settings should work)<br>7. Layer>Duplicate layer<br>8. Filters>Blur>Gaussian blur 12px<br>9. Dialog>Layers and click on the duplicated layer, name it glow and move it under text layer<br>10. Select the glow layer (if not already selected)<br>11. Filters>distort>wind, should be set on 10<br>12. First select left<br>13. Redo steps 11 & 12, but instead of left, select right<br>14. Image>Transform>Rotate image 90 degrees CCW<br>15. Repeat filters>distort>wind right/then do left<br>16. Image>Transform>Rotate image 90 degrees CW<br>17. Select glow>duplicate as many times as needed to get desired brightness of text<br>18.New layer>name it color overlay>fill with any color you want wind to be<br>19. Move overlay to top of layer stack<br>20. Create new image 420x200 fill with black<br>2. White text Sans Bold <br>3. Right click on the layer in layer dialog<br>4. Click merge down<br>5. Select smear tool (Circle fuzzy (7) Rate: 75)<br>6. Zoom in 200% and smear outside of letters<br>7. Smear inside of letters-make super white into gray<br>8. Make flame movements on top (go crazy)<br>9. Layer>Color>Color Balance<br>Here you can mess around and pick own color of flames, but if you want realistic flames:<br><br>Shadows:<br>100<br>30<br>-30<br><br>Midtones<br>100<br>30<br>-30<br><br>Highlights<br>100<br>0<br>-100<br><br>It should turn out to something like this:<br><br><a href="http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee280/darky1782/Darkness-Fire-1.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee28 ... Layer>New layer Add 2 transparent layers: name them projection & brick<br>3. Dialog>Layers<br>4. Select project layer<br>5. Select>all<br>6. Select>Shrink Reduce selection by 10 <br>7. Select>rounded rectangle (25)<br>8. Edit>Fill with BG color (BG color should be white)<br>9. Select>none<br>10. Filter>blur>Gaussian blur (10) <br>11. Select brick layer<br>12. Double click on Foreground color<br>13. On the right side of the box that pops up with FG color, find the letters RGB going down.<br>14. Fill with R+97, G+49, B+2<br>15. Filters>map>bump map<br>16. Select projection in layer dialog<br>17. On bumpmap: Depth+5, X & y offset -1, Ambient+100<br>18. Script-fu>décor>add bevel<br>19. When bevel box pops up:<br>Uncheck work on copy<br>Thickness+5<br>20. CTRL+F<br>21. Add text (in white)<br>22. Filter>blur>Gaussian blur<br>23. Duplicate brick layer<br>24. Click on original brick layer<br>25. Create new document (white) any size<br>2. Filter>Artistic>Cubism<br>3. Tile size: 12, Tile saturation: 2.2<br>4. Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur (2)<br>5. Filter>Edge detect>edge<br>6. Layer>Color>Color balance (mess around till desired color)<br>7.   • I've made that last background quite a few times when I had GIMP on my old computer. Haven't ever seen a tutorial on the text effects like that though. Thanks, Dark.
