Yay! XD - Application was approved! Pics on last post

Random, yes, but I had to post this. :P

My dad said yes to me adopting a dog. I started volunteering at a shelter, and fell in love with a Lab mix named <a href="http://www.ral.org/animals/dogs/3393/"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">Mimi. XD It only took one visit for me to become attached, haha.

(Just you watch, tomorrow the page should say "Applied For" :D)

She's pretty well behaved (no chewing, etc.), but has no obedience skills. A minor inconvienience, but it'll be fun training her. I've already trained her to sit while nobody else could even get her to relax enough. XD

I took her into the "Real Room" (a room with a desk, couch, etc. to simulate an actual house) and she didn't even jump up on the couch, go potty, or anything 'bad'.

So now I'm making plans for her, like what color collar and what our schedule will be.. I'm also changing her name since "Mimi" sounds like some stuck-up kind of name. XD (No offense to anyone ;)) I don't know what it'll be, so suggest names if you want.

So yeah. She's only about a year old.. I have 10-14+ years to own her. Should be fun. :P

I -can't- wait! I'll get her sometime after the 14th. I'm pretty sure the application is going to be approved. I have strong refs, a vet ref, and I also volunteer there.

<img src="http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u24/SwiftlyRedtailed/mimi-1.png"; alt="http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u24/SwiftlyRedtailed/mimi-1.png"; class="bb-image" />

That's what she looks like now. She lost fur due to demodectic mange; which she's being/been treated for, I think she has one treatment left and then she'll be done.

I'll get better pictures next Saturday. I forgot to take the digital camera, but I "have" to next week since I'm doing photography for the shelter. ^^

She's the dog in my banner, btw. ;3

- Anastasia

  • Tis not always about what the dog looks like Buffy :wink:

I'm so glad he said yes! I was a little worried there for awhile, I'm so happy for you! <3 Omg, you have to keep me posted! I'm so happy for you ^^
    Bye.
  • Thanks Nickel. :3

Haha, Jacob is a super friendly dog. He doesn't even bark in the kennel, just sits on his bed and waits for someone to take him out.

He was just brought in from a kill-shelter on Thursday. His sister was adopted yesterday, so he'll probably be going home by the end of the week.

Actually, one of the dogs at the shelter has "happy tail" caused from his tail hitting the concrete wall in the kennel, and it's bleeds everytime. The walls inside his kennel has blood splattered all over. It's really sad, I got sprayed with blood when I took him out. I'm hoping he gets adopted soon. That must hurt, but he doesn't seem to care.

The dog I'm talking about is Kenneth, but he's not on the website. It's a shame too, because he learned the entire agility course in less than 30 minutes. I think he'd be adopted quickly if people knew how intelligent he was.

<3333 you Kite. XD I was amazed when my dad told me. Although, he threatened to send her back to the "pound" if she ever jumps the fence. *rolls eyes* I'll make sure it doesn't happen.

When he said that, he also couldn't help but insult my dog-training ability.. Bleh. Oh well

  • Cute dog. I think I'd name her Myra or Luci if she were mine.
I own a rescue dog whom I love very much. He is a golden Husky named Champ.
  • She looks like a SADIE!!! She really does. Or a Jordan. No- a Cookie! Sorry, I'm hungry. and craving a cookie. i am a cookie monster.

  • Wait- she has demotectic mange? My dog has that, the one that looks exactly like her. *searches for pics*

  • Yeah, she has demodectic mange. That's probably one of the bigger reasons I feel for her.

I used to have a dog that had demodectic mange, but my dad wouldn't pay for the vet bills (I was too young to work) and she basically rotted alive until my dad dumped her at the humane society.

And I feel like I owe her something, because nobody at the shelter even bothers touching Mimi. They act like she's some infested demon and it's going to kill them if they get near her. -.-

But the main reason I fell for her is because she enjoys life, even though she's been through so much. She was abused and neglected, and she still finds a way to 'smile' and prance around like nothing ever happened.

I've already had an animal named Cookie. :P I don't reuse names of previous animals, I feel bad about it. o.O

Which is why I've named sea monkeys things like Bob1, Bob2, Bobbett1, Bobbett2... XD

  • We have an American Eskimo too, named Einstein. (Female dog though, my dad just thought she was a male - don't ask me how anyone could confuse it. XD)

Our eskie;
<img src="http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u24/SwiftlyRedtailed/einythree.png"; alt="http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u24/SwiftlyRedtailed/einythree.png"; class="bb-image" />

She just looks innocent, but once/when/if Mimi gets here, a lot of work has to be done (on my part) to keep her from tearing Mimi apart. Not literally, but Einstein would probably kill Mimi if she had the chance.

Which is why I'll be handling all feeding, exercise, and most (if not all) treats with both dogs for 4 to 6 weeks, just to make sure nothing happens. After that, Einstein should get used to having another dog around. She's never actually had a dog live on the property for more than 3 months, and she never really accepted a female. She's not spayed, my dad still hopes to someday breed her even though she's 6 years and completely aggressive (towards anything that moves, incl. humans..)unless I'm handling her.

That's also why my mom lied on the adoption application and left out that we had a dog. One, she's not fixed, and two, it takes her a long while to get used to dogs. Put strange humans in the equation, and she's an aggressive coward. (I *think* you have to bring current dogs to meet the dog you're interested in)

Well, that and Einstein hasn't gotten any shots since 2006. Her rabies is going to expire this year. I'll probably be the one taking her to the vet after I get my license, and the one paying for it.

Aw, she's a cute dog Pepper. ;)

I love black and white dogs. XD

  • Whoo! Our application was approved and I got to pick Mimi up at 3:30 PM today.

I was told yesterday, and after that, I was literally counting down the hours and minutes left. XD

I apologize for the picture quality. I was an idiot and my water spilt on the camera. ($600 camera, ick!) Luckily it just needs to dry out some more.. Well, I hope.

<img src="http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh265/matpersonal/1.png"; alt="http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh265/matpersonal/1.png"; class="bb-image" />
Very very tired. Pretty much collapsed after I got 20-30 minutes into our first walk. She still walked home after though, just very slowly.
(I think she might have allergies, but I won't give her allergy meds until my vet says I can.. I don't need it interacting badly with her ivermectin.)

<img src="http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh265/matpersonal/lay.png"; alt="http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh265/matpersonal/lay.png"; class="bb-image" />
She looks so fat! XD And she kind of looks much older than she is.

<img src="http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh265/matpersonal/smile.png"; alt="http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh265/matpersonal/smile.png"; class="bb-image" />
Goofy smile, eh? Something is wrong with her muzzle. Her lip will curl inside her mouth and her teeth will show. I think that's an overbite? Don't know. It doesn't seem to affect anything, so I guess it doesn't matter.

And Einstein isn't nearly as bad as I thought she would be. She only tried to bite once, so I consider that a good thing. XD

Maybe I won't have to control the feedings, treats, etc. for as long as I thought I would have to. :D

That happens to my dog sometimes too. It's weird, but she doesn't even seem to notice. I just flip it back the way it's supposed to go and she gives me a weird look like 'why are you touching my lips' XD

But anyways, that's so exciting! She's so cuteee :]
