My dog :(

Ok. Alot of you know I have a pug, named Pugsley, Well today about 12:00 pm jumped of the couch and fell and when I looked he was on the floor on his side then he got up and ran outside, I didn't think anything of it cause he has fallen off the couch tring to jump before well, now he has been limping and he just doesn't seem like himself. He would normally whiper if he was hurting but he hasn't. But he just seems to shiver and want to lay with someone and stuff. We are going to call the vet tomorrow but, does anyone know what I could do maybe?

I'm really worried.

Thanks for the lovely banner, Nickel :)
  • Thanks for the support even if you don't have advice.

I don't feel so alone on this issue. I will definatly uypdate this after the vet.
  • With little dogs it's common for their kneecaps (patellas) to slip out of place. If he jumped and it popped out of place your vet can probably put in back in place. He might not have luxating patellas, but that's what I thought of when I first read your post. Hopefully he just sprained something.

Is he not using one leg?

<a href="http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1569&articleid=457"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm ... icleid=457

Hope your baby starts feeling better soon!

  • We call the vet and she put us in at 6:30 pm so, that means he will have to deal with it till later. He is sort of not useing his leg but, he still walks on it but, limps. He never whipers when we touch his leg or when he walks so.

He seems to be doing much better, but we are still gonna get him check out.
  • I've got a Lhasa Apsa/Pomeranian/Toy Poodle who's legs are pretty brittle. They do feel like they're pretty weak, and "pop" out of place every once in awhile. But if he's not used to it happening, that could be why he's acting like that. Plus with any small dog, it's pretty common for them to shake when they get nervous or excited, as our dog does that if he gets nervous, scared or excited. It sounds like he's pretty much alright, just doesnt know a whole lot about what's going on. Hope the vet can help.
Take care :D
If you've ordered anything, please be patient with me. Having volcano/ash troubles. Msg me for more info, and I'll get back to you asap!! Thankies!!
  • Thanks muddy.

Ok update on the vet: WE took him to the vet and he was looking at his leg but, he said nothing was wrong. Mom told him about his tight understide and how the whole tummy is tight. (If she had told me that I could have thought that it was his back but I didn't get that info) Anyway so he started feeling his back and pugsley started to groan so it's his back and that's why he's walking funny. The vet said that it was his mussles (sp? I can't spell today) and that that's why he was tight. So he must have 7 - 10 days to rest no jumping no running starting in one place alot so that he heals. Oh and give him half of a childrens advil (buffy you were right about this on chat). So I shall let everyone know how he's doing as days go pass.

He also started eating today after I took water and made him lick it off my fingers and then started giving him more and more and then he had a long drink. Then he ate his whole food.

The only thing is he loves to jump and stuff so we are gonna have to watch him and pick him up and stuff on the stairs and things (Yes he has to go down and up the stairs)

So thats my life practically. I shall be sttaying home alot and watching.
  • Haha buffy is amazing huh?
I dont normally have small dogs, i have in the past and kinda watch a boston terrier sometimes but my dogs are..
Great Dane mix
siberian huskeyxblue heeler
and a german shepherd.

But yeah childrens advil is the best

  • The vet was like open his mouth and put it down his throat. I was like O.O I can't do that XD but I have to.
  • Oh, I hate doing that. Especially with my cats. Like Lily had to have some kind of sedative or something to help her calm down be cause she was constantly grooming herself, and it was like... 2 a day for 2-4 weeks or something.. I can't remember. But I hated doing it. ><

Good luck with Pugsley.

  • Ya I know. Its hard but, well it has to be done.

Thanks Dreamy!
  • Mix it in with Wet dogfood. OR put in in the end of a hot dog and give him a peice. just try different foods until you find the easiest way for him to take it

  • Buffy has lots of answers!

Thanks.

I shall try that. He told me advril and asprin works but Tylonal (sp?) can kill the dogs. I didn't know anything about giveing them our medicine. So for all you our there don't give your babies tylonal.
  • Its like getting a horse to open his mouth. Just do the following:

Pinch the sides of his mouth so his lips are pushing agenst his teeth, do this until he opens up.

When he opens up, your fingers will be in a ring around the top of his mouth.

Take your finger and put the pill on his tounge, and shove it to the back of his throat.

Hold his mouth closed, and rub his throat until he licks his chops.

  • Just try putting it in his food or in Balogna or a hot dog. Works everytime with my Jack Russel. I know how hard it is to keep a dog from jumping and stuff. My jack russel was not aloud to run, jump, play anything for like 2 weeks and I thought she might have a heart attack from not doing anything which she loved.
