I'm sooo freakin excited to see that they changed the name from the general term "pit bull" to AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER!

Thanks to all that made it possible!
But "pit bull" was not the correct name for the breed. It is just a general term that can classify several different breeds ranging from Amercan Bulldogs to Bull Terriers to the real APBT.

I'm happy that it was now changed to the correct name! Some people may not think it was a big deal, but I'm really appreciative right now! There have been several hot debates in the past as to whether the name should be changed and it is now!
I honestly don't get the big deal between the names. *shrugs*

For me personally, it is just the point that "pit bull" was not the correct name. There isn't a registry that registers pit bulls, they register American Pit Bull Terriers.

Like I said, many don't care. Me? I do.
I do get why. =p I recently read a book about dog fights (not how to fight them obviously, but about the breeds and their use throughout history).

Pit bulls comes from Bull dog. This is any dog that can be successfully used to bait bulls. Pit bulls were any of the 'bull dogs' used for fighting against each other, other animals, or even people in areas called pits.

So pit bull is a very vague classification. American Pit Bull Terrier is a breed.
Haha fooled yah.. where i live its illegal to keep a pit bul so when i get a dog ^^ shall be AB

That sucks! I would pack up and move in an instant if the city decided to restrict them here. Well, before that, I'd be fighting my butt off trying to save them.

No one shall EVER take my Emily away from me!

from what i understand, they call them "pit" bulls because when they use them
to fight ( :x ) they fought them in "the pit". and then the bull came from
the breed being originally bred for bull baiting.

akc recognizes them as "American Staffordshire Bull Terriers"
people who own and breed Am Staffs. say that they aren't the same as
Pit Bulls. however in my opinion I think they basically are, just bred for different
body structures and tempermeants.

im very glad they changed the name though ^.^ hopefully the name itself
will give them a better reputation? it makes me mad that people blame the
whole breed when its only a chunk of dogs causing the problems. and
besides...its the owners not the dogs
[/unecessary rant]
