Fursonas?

does anyone know what a fursona is? i've seen them in vp art contests but never really figured out what they are. I don't know if that's a stupid question but i thought i'd ask anyways :P Thanks.

Well, fursona is usually an animal designed to fit who you are. Most people, however, just make it what they think looks cool. >_> *pet peeve* For example, I act very ferret like. The way my body is structured, my eating habits, and the general way about how I act. So my fursona is a ferret. However, I've also been compared to a fox for the way I'm said to be manipulative (common 'fox'-like quality) and my lanky build and shyness. So my fursona is a really thin fox with a ferret mask and ferret-like markings. Also, colors tend to be, supposedly, symbolic, but again it depends on whether you want it to represent yourself or who you want others to think of you as. Myself, again, as an example. The main color of my ferret-fox (foxet) is gray, because I'm highly indecisive and really neutral. However, the markings are brown, because my hair is brown. Jewelry etc is usually worn by the person the fursona's made to represent. For example, I wear a dog collar and choke chain in real life. That's the only jewelry I'll wear. Thus, my fursona has a camo-print collar (like the one I have in real life) and a choke chain. =3 To sum it up: A fursona is an animal design either made to represent the person or just to look how the person wants to appear to others.

Some of my fursonas are really just creatures that I make up that need a name,like Hayden(Check artist alley) Mine tends to be a wolflike/dingolike creature,lanky,friendly,with wings(Im always dreaming about flying)amd a special necklace like one I have in real life.He tends to have chains around randow feet,and occasionally I will add Pokemon markings to him xD

Kazzy pretty much summed it up ^^ My fursona is a Timber Wolf x Arctic Wolf cross, because I asked around which breed of Wolf I'd be, and those were the two most common answers. I try not to be like everyone else in real life, so I figured a Wolf mix would fit me ^^ (Not to mention..I'm a mix of so many things XD) My fursona wears two dog tags around her neck; I do as well. They were given to me by my best friend before she moved states away our Freshman year. I haven't taken off the dog tags for 3 years + now. So my fursona wears them as well. Her fursona (designed by your's truely ;3) wears them too (and so does she, in real life) ^^ My favorite color is green, and I tend to neglect my other favorite colors. So I promised myself Kite would have no green on her whatsoever. I didn't want to make her unrealistic, so she couldn't be red. I didn't want to put black on her, I wanted her to be light colors. My other favorite color is gray, but I didn't wanna make her one solid color, so I made her 2 different shades of gray (that, in my opinion, go well together) and added a couple white markings. Two of which are on two of her legs, they're 'sock' markings because I always run around with 1 sock on, 1 off. So I only put the white markings on 2 of her legs, instead of all 4. Her gold eyes are the color of a necklace that my sister had one of my old dogs' name engraved in. I don't wear the necklace, its on one of my bed posts with his collar, leash, and winter jacket. Each of my bedposts is dedicated to a different passed on dog, and has at least their collar. Her claws are black because if I was allowed to dress emo, I would. But some people just wanna make their fursona look cool and don't put any meaning behind it. It works both ways :P
