• Sorry to hear about your ferret. ;-;
He is so cute looking. ;]

  • NOO! He's to cute! If you raise the money for surgury could you do it? You may want to give him to the animal shelter and they'll fix him up and then you can adopt him again. That's what someone did at my local animal shelter.

  • My shelter won't take anything but cats and dogs. Stupid, I know. Even if we did that, the only perminant fix is surgery.
No, mom and dad said ferrets are too small to have surgery done.
    Bye.
  • Bull. The smallest animal is a fish  Do it anyways, your parents cant stop you, Mink is YOUR ferrit, not THEIRS.

BTW, can I see piccys?

  • They mean its risky and dangerous, they know its possible.
I don't have the money to do it with, nor do I have a lisence or a car to get to the vet with.
There's a picture on the first post.
    Bye.
  • Oh...Hes cute.

He might not have it.

  • That's a possibility, but his symptoms match AD more than the other things it could be.
    Bye.
  • My mom's friend had a fish put down (uethinized) so a ferret is not to small for surgery!!!!!!!!!!

I already addressed that -_- please read before you say something.
    Bye.
  • Sunny, this disease effects 75% of all ferrets 4 years and older. Mink is 4. His hairloss started at the base of his tail and is moving up his back, which is one of the biggest symptoms for AD and not a symptom of other hairloss related issues in a ferret. There's a high chance he has it. There is a chance he doesn't, I know this, but there's a high chance that he does.

Thanks Nickel.
    Bye.
  • Aw, Kite, I'm really sorry. I pm'd you, hold on.

That's not true at all.
Infact, my mother inquired about having my HAMSTERS neutered a few years ago.
The vet stated that there were procedures for such things.
So if they have instruments for hamsters, they have them for ferrets.

Tell your parents to stop beating around the bush, spouting off things that they don't have the slightest clue at what they're talking about, and give you the real reason.

Is it money? Well, you'll work to pay for it yourself.
  • They know that its possible. But they think its too risky.

No, they have money right now. They just don't like ferrets and have wanted to get rid of our's for quite awhile.
    Bye.
  • it might not be AD my aunts ferret had some other thing that they treated it and she still has hair loss but shes better I think shes about 8-9 years old now. I am not sure but you could look into rarer diseases in ferrets(thats what my cousin did)
  • I've done a lot of searches for "hairloss in ferrets" and it all points to AD :( He has the symptoms. I wish dad'd take him to the vet sooner ><
    Bye.
  • So the day after we find out Mink's sick, what does dad do?

Goes to buy a friggin truck. There goes all of our spending money.

We have two damn trucks sitting in the driveway, not touched since I was in 5th grade 6 years ago.

I told him he makes me sick. His response?

"Its just a ferret."

HE'S A LIVING BREATHING CREATURE THAT FEELS PAIN AND SUFFERS JUST LIKE WE DO. If it was ME that was that sick, he wouldn't go buying a truck, he'd take me to a DOCTOR. ITS NO DIFFERENT.

I hate my family.
    Bye.
  • Okay, so dad called the vet today...the secritary said she'd have one of the actual vets call us back. Good thing is, dad was asking about how much the surgery would cost, and if they had any vets that've had experience in operating on a ferret before. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that 1) he doesn't have AD, and 2) If he does, the surgery is affordable and they know what they're doing.
    Bye.
  • Yay!.. he called the vet - if he does have AD i hope he does get the surgery :D fingers crossed for you

We have to save up for big things like trucks but the one thing i will always know is that our animals come first my mum HATES rabbits but she want all that best for my Triggler sometimes i dont have the money for his insurace so she'll let me pay her back but i think that has something to do with her past - she was always surrounded by animals when she was younger :D

  • *gulp* We have an appointment at 6:10 tonight to get Mink checked out...Hope for the best :(
    Bye.
  • *huggles* Hope he gets better!
  • The vet's guess is seasonal hair loss, but she said to keep our eyes peeled for any more AD symptoms.

So that's awesome :D

If he does have AD it'll cost;

$100 for bloodwork
$400 for ultrasound
$1,000 for actual surgery.
    Bye.
  • e.e that's a lot of money.

Hopefully it is just seasonal hair loss. Wish ya the best of luck Kite :3

Thanks for the lovely banner, Nickel :)
  • Wow.

Good news, though :D
    2008_02Anim1Cobalt1.gif
  • Yeah :D

Bad news is, if he ends up having AD, he's being put to sleep, no questions asked. :( Dad said he could just buy another ferret for much cheaper than getting Mink treated. Bleh >>
    Bye.
  • aww kite. that sucks....i would want it to get treated...

if it does get treated, are there side effects or possible cons that could happen after surgery...
    264p8a9.png
  • The only real con for the surgery is this;

If the right Adrenal gland is the one with the tumor, it may have to only be partially removed because its attached to a major blood vessel. And it'll grow back, so the surgery might have to be preformed again. If they fully remove it, they have to take part of the blood vessel with it.
    Bye.
