I WANT to foster her sooo bad!!!

There's a Rottweiler at our local shelter and I want to foster her sooo bad! She is simply stunning! Apparenty, she was found abandoned on a country road and fell into a swimming pool where the owner of the pool found her.

I don't want to say I'm angry, because I'm not really. More disappointed, I guess. My family won't let me foster because they all say I'll get to "attached" to the animal and I won't let anyone adopt it. NOT TRUE! Yes, I may get attached to it. Yes, I may be upset when it leaves. BUT, I would not try to keep it. I know there are many, many more people out there that can provided better for the animal than I can. I would just love to take care of it so it is not stuck in a shelter kennel until someone decides to adopt it. :(

Anyway, no more whining... Here's MaeLynn. I think I'm in love!

<img src="http://photocache.petfinder.com/fotos/IN146/IN146.10361766-2-x.jpg"; alt="http://photocache.petfinder.com/fotos/IN146/IN146.10361766-2-x.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

<img src="http://photocache.petfinder.com/fotos/IN146/IN146.10361766-3-x.jpg"; alt="http://photocache.petfinder.com/fotos/IN146/IN146.10361766-3-x.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

  • She's gorgeous! I'm sure someone equally as wonderful will foster her though, a dog that beautiful is hard to pass by :3

  • I know! She sure will find a great home. We're a small town and I'm really surprised at how many purebred dogs we get. I'd say a little more than a quarter of the dogs we have right now are pure.
  • She's gorgeous! I love Rotties <3 I hope it works out :D

  • I adore Rotties <3 A family friend owns three. Pele, Cajun, and Bear. Pele is my dog-away-from-Pocco&Sysco :P

She's beautiful! This is Pele, I don't have any pictures of Cajun or Bear.

<a href="http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p311/Kite_Katsumi/Dogs/968247.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p311 ... 968247.jpg

You pronounce his name Pay-lay, by the way ^^
    Bye.
  • Beautiful girl.

One question... Why is the shelter using such an abusing collar on her? The one where if you tug on the leash the spikes tighten into the neck. I find those unecessarily cruel, and I thought they would know a little better than that...

(sorry if any of you use them, it is just personal opinion I suppose)

  • I used to feel the same way about pinch/prong collars. But once I learned how to use one properly, they are extremely beneficial. The one in the picture is actually really big. It should be positioned right behind the ears and it should not slip. You can even put one on your own neck and it doesn't hurt like you think it would.

Image of what one should look like.
<a href="http://www.leerburg.com/Photos/prong and dom collar.jpg" target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.leerburg.com/Photos/prong ... collar.jpg
  • SHE IS GOREGEOUS.

  • We use pinch collars. Although they look cruel, if you use them properly, they're definitely more more humane then choke collars and they don't hurt the dog. Whenever the dog pulls, the prongs tighten, pinching the skin slightly. This does not hurt the dog, nor does it dog into the dog's skin. It simply makes the dog uncomfortable, and if it wants to feel comfortable again, it stops pulling. We have tried many things for our dogs, including the gentle leader, but the pinch collar is definitely the best we've used so far. Of course, if you jerk on it, it can hurt the dog, the collar works simply whenever the dog pulls. Does that make sense? You shouldn't have to pull backwards at all, the dog does it all himself. That is the proper and humane way to use them. Sorry, long post XD

  • I want her!Too bad we`re not allowed to have any pets
*night all.*
  • I don't wanna change you're opinion on the Snap collars, Topleaf, but maybe this will help:

It's actually impossible to choke the dog with the Snap Collars on. They are the best thing to train with (in my opinion)

In fact, they once saved my dog's life, and I am forever greatful to them.

  • I use anti-pull harnesses. They work like a charm for me :3
    Bye.
  • For big and hyper dog's like mine, harnesses increase their pulling habbits. But I've heard they are amazing for other dogs.
    silverr.jpg
  • Really? That's odd. Anti-pull harnesses are designed so that when a dog pulls, it ends up standing on his hind legs a bit with its front legs jerked up. So the dog can't keep pulling. :? My Papillons are little hyper energy machines...Pocco snapped a lease once 0o I almost didn't believe that it happened.
    Bye.
  • Papillions? Cute! Well, with a big dog, when the harness pulls them UP their extra weight makes them sink DOWN, which borders the act of pulling.

 My dog can't snap a leash, because we give him 1 1/2 inch thick ones, but he DOES chew through them. He easily broke his old puppy leashes in two bites, and once while we tied him up with a 1 1/2 think leash he chewed through it in fifteen minutes. Lunatic dog.

Oh goodness! Those do work as well! My aunt had one for her APBT, Rusty. It worked miracles!! Unfortunately, he chewed it up. Stupid dog!

Honestly, I think the best device is just a plain flat collar. TRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING, is all I have to say. The pinch, choke, and anti-pull harnesses are just training devices. But, with my experiences, the pinch collar has worked best in training.
Pinch collars are not cruel, my dog Savannah is a very dominant and stubborn dog who pulls a lot and has yanked down my mom, me, my sister, and my dad. We tried the pinch collar and it works wonderfully. I used to think they were cruel, but it's actually really useful if you use it correctly.

I've also used one of those head collars *can't remember the name* <a href="http://www.edogsncats.com/html/images/gl7.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.edogsncats.com/html/images/gl7.jpg; < What it should look like when used correctly. Savannah had one, it worked wonders until she chewed it up xD

  • Prong collars are only cruel when people don't know how to use them properly. :P At the pet store I used to work at, the owner kept them behind the counter so that people had to ask for them instead of just seeing them and going, hmm I like that, lol.

My dog pulls a lot when walking (she's a 7 year old puppy :P), so I use a Halti. Choker collars didn't stop her from pulling because she has such a strong neck she didn't care how much it tightened. I never got as far as using a prong collar because the halti works well with her, she even listens better once it's on. Now if only she would learn she can't rub it off on me...

That's a Gentle Leader. We tried it, and it worked sorta well, but my dogs were always trying to rub it off. They don't try anything with the pinch collar though ^.^
