The Other Boleyn Girl

edited March 2008 in General Discussion
Anyone else seen that? I went to see it today. So interesting, and it is very good. Anyone else's opinions? It inspired me to research so much more on the subject. I learned that Henry the 8th was in reality short and fat, and considerably ugly.

lol Thats the first thing we learnt in school about him when I was about five but I think the general image of Henry VIII in England is a short, fat ugly man who misused marriage for his own purposes anyway so it wasnt a great surprise to us.

I highly recommend the book(s) (plural because Phillipa Gregory has done a whole Tudor range and they are fantastic). I havent seen the film yet but the book was great so will see it as soon as I can.

 • Yes, I probably should read the book. I didn't even know it was a book until the end.

It's really good although the film is probably better. I think there was a tv adaptation of it a few years ago (2001 ish) but I didnt see that. I like seeing all the costumes and castles and stuff!

 • So do I *nods* I actually wish I got to wear those dresses and grow my hair out. But I seem to know that at school, all the guys would step on our dresses purposely

 • I used to do medieval re-enactment when I was younger (10 years ago! lol) and I used to love walking around the local castle in a swishy dress and swishing a sword around. The lads were always laughing though, i'd feel a bit silly doing it now but would love to do it again :)

 • lol. I wish there were castles near me. The only think I could do a swishy dress in would be the local grocery store. Just picturing it now. The staring eyes and gaping faces.
