Well, not the best, but I was suprised seeing as I've been on serious drawing hiatis for almost a year. The shading wasn't picked up very well, but you can get a general idea. • Very great visualisation. Looks a lot like the greyhound's face. Nice shading where it's needed, as-well as shadows.
If you've ordered anything, please be patient with me. Having volcano/ash troubles. Msg me for more info, and I'll get back to you asap!! Thankies!!
  • Thanks. So close to figuring out this darn scanner. Then you'll be able to see it all :D

  • "I don't have a fancy program (unless you count paint) so I have to rely on my hands to give me art."

It's quite unfortunate that you had the audacity to tread on the pride of art program users. Be well advised that it's not the program or equipment that makes the artist. It's the level of talent. I've seen people do things with water colors that Photoshop (GIMP, MS Paint, Paint Shop Pro, Corel Art, Maya) users would most likely not accomplish.

Also, we "fancy program" users do rely on our hands to do what we do.
I have a graphic tablet and a pen. I use my hands.
The fact that we have to pay closer attention to detail proves our merit for what we accomplish. Every pixel must be correct or it'll be visible. Put a 1px white dot in the middle of a black background and one can easily target it. Sketch on paper and it would not be noticeable or not a soul would take the time to point it out due to paper texture and implement tool.

My point is both traditional and graphic artists work very hard on their pieces and deserve to be credited as equals. It's most likely that you need more practice.

My Critique:

It looks decent. It would have been better if you took that high road and didn't use a reference. I'm not sure if you copied down to a T or just used it to make sure the body decoration was on the up and up, but it's always better to use your mind's eye for reference as it is true. Yet that could be debated.

Anatomy:

The lower jaw is too long for the upper jaw. If one were to draw a straight line from the tip of the lower jaw vertically they'd see that it lines up with the nose. That's not proper canine skull structure.

The eye set is off. The eye should be aligned with the tip of the nose (which it is) and the end of the lips (which it isn't).

The ears are not lined up properly. I should be able to graph a line from the center of the eye to the ear in a near perfect vertical line to reach the inner middle side of the ear.

So, feel free to use the excuse that it's been a year since you've drawn something and keep practicing. Practice does make near perfect.
Yet, I'm also not a fan of posting things that I think are half assed or (what I've seen many times from people) pretty good for my first try though I'm not happy with it yet I'm going to post it anyway. You should always post things that you're completely happy with (unless the line art not the coloring is still in edit) even though others may not see the same way.

Keep it up.
  • It was not my intention to insult you or anyone else. In all reality, I'm saving up for both a Tablet and Photo shop CS2. I adore a lot of the art that is done by tablet and Paint, including yours.

I had no intention of downgrading the value of art done in such a way. As you say, those who use programs have worked hard to get to the level they are at. And for this, I apologize to anyone whom I offended.

As for your critique, it was extremely helpful. That, paired with other bits I have gotten from others, I have already started on a new project. This one, somewhat larger is completely original (no reference used). The above picture is probably as done as it can, except for a few improvements. ^^

  • I'm not sure who you offended, their loss, but my enlightenments are not offense related.

If you by chance change the picture I'd very much like to see.
