Is it considered tracing..?

I tend to, whenever drawing.. Not doodling.. Drawing.. Hehe..
To trace the shapes. So for a dog, it'd be a circly-square for the head, circles in the chest, Whatever. And make new layers or do it multiple times. To get the feel of the shapes and placements in my head. Then, I go to the paper or file I'm doing my piece on, and try to resemble those as close as possible.

Is that considered tracing?

  • Not to me, it isn't. It's more like anatomy practice. S'long as you don't, say, outline the dog completely, it should be fine. =3

That's the best way to practice the shapes. =D Look at drawings and, if needed, make circles around the parts that are circle-y.

  • That's what I always thought of it as. Never hurts to be sure though.

  • i think it is.
you need to learn how to shape things to be a successful artist,
everything you do should be on your own behalf
maybe for starters you need to trace them or something...
i never did though

  • I don't think it is, not at all. You're just getting a feel for the shapes. Shapes can be hard...that's why they sell stencils and compasses so you can make perfect circles (and other shapes).
    Bye.
  • No. I don't see it as tracing. Tracing is when a person copies the exact form and shape of an object taken from another art piece or photograph.
What you're doing is practice. You're practicing a form and thus applying original attributes to the work.
