Games and Agressive.. Bella.

First off, I'd like to state happy news. As lately I haven't. Bella's doing great. She's already be dubbed the 'moocher' of the house and believes sleeping on the floor is below her. She's a goof. She's playful and loves Lily and the snow.

We live 5 minutes from the park and a fenced in, large schoolyard. And she loves tennisballs, so I got some and we play fetch, she likes to catch snow in her mouth. Yah. I was wondering if anyone had any games in mind for large area of play? *nod* yeah.

Now.. the.. not so happy part. The boarding kennel Bella was at said if we were to ever get another dog, she should be fine.. But my worry is.. were they wrong? 2 days after getting Bella, we met Rodney, who was Auzzy's best bud and was actually at the SPCA with him. But Bella, at sight of him, growled, pulled, barked, snarled. I don't know what that was, but I mean, I don't know if it's aggressive or not. >.> But when she sees a dog, she completely loses focus of everything. This worries me with obedience, walks, hikes, park trips.. Exedra. Obedience, obviously she'll be with other dogs and we do work off leash sometimes. What would she do? Walks, especially with it getting icier, I already fell and was dragged 10 feet by her to get to my mom. What about if it was aggression driving her? I couldn't stop it. Hikes, there is a place we go occasionally and you can have your dog off leash. or on leash if you don't mind being tangled around the trees. But, they have some steep hills and I've been dragged on the leaves by AUzzy(luckily my dad grabbed the leash so I could find my footing). Parks. Gosh. Her longest leash is only 50 ft. And it easily tangles. That's no fun. She could be running much farther off leash if I knew what it was.

We don't have regular contact with dogs. So I really don't know. Any ideas?

  • Some dogs just don't get along well with other dogs. If you don't have access to regular meetings with other dogs, there's not much you really can do...

  • I would talk to someone if you think its going to be an issue.

  • *nods* I just don't know. They said she was fine, and they had her for two months. :(

  • You could always get her a muzzle and have her wear it when you know there'll be other dogs around...^^
    Bye.
  • True. I'm more worried on the fact that she can always have a leash on, it'll restrict her, but it's safer. But if it's icy.. *nod* We just kept her on a 50 foot leash and took her in a tennis court last time. dogs went by and she was looking to get out, but we had enough time to grab the end. >.>

  • Try a Halti lead, this is a head harness like what a horse wears. It is not a muzzle but it gives much better control because the simple fact is, no animal can go anywhere without its head.

It may take her a few mins to get used to it but keep at it and she will adjust. The halti harness works better cuz with a collar or a body harness a dog can get their shoulders and body into the pull, this gives them the strength to yank you around. But with a Halti, the dog may try to run or pull you but it's neck is not as strong as their shoulders, so their head will turn and their body will follow. You may end up with a dog going in circles around you, but after awhile the pulling should stop as it isn't working anymore.

Boz and Ana Luffs Ru! ( we own her you see! :P ) NUU Ori owns Ru!! YAARRR!!!
  • Hrm.. I never thought of using that for this. We actually have one for when Auzzy was aggressive. He's lunge at a door, tighten it and tell him to sit, when he doesn, slacken immediatly. It worked until he figured us out and started snarling/snapping. I'll try it with Bella.

lmbo. Auzzy's trainer said something like that.

It looks much like the muzzle type head gear you were using before, the gentle leader, but it gives you more control and it's more comfortable for the dog. Whether he leads you to believe that or not, that's another story.

And then some other stuff and came to the head. No animal can go anywhere without it's head, if it did, it'd be in trouble. Unless of course it was a chicken from which I've heard to live without it for a seemingly strange time frame..

Meh, something like that.

  • I think the other suggestions (asided from the muzzle) were good.

Sometimes you've just got to deal with the fact that some dogs are dog aggressive. Some dogs are dog tolerable. You've got to avoid the ones they don't like.

That's just my two cents.
  • *nods* I completely get it. Bella likes cats. And there are some dogs that just won't won't won't do decent with them.

The muzzle isn't my favorite. Anastatia, who helped me alot with Auzzy is going to type up info to help her relax more.

  • The suggestions I hear most on Animal Planet, in no perticular order, are:

1) Muzzle
2) Head halter
3) Getting their canines filed
4) Avoid other dogs
5) Special training and stuff

So yeah...I'm no help XD but if you're worried about her pulling, I highly recommend a anti-pull harness. They work wonders. <3 The dog can't pull even if it wants to, the way the harness is designed holds them back and prevents them from pulling. We have one...Pocco and Sysco pull really bad. They can pull me over and they only weigh 11 and 13 pounds. But with the harness they're stopped dead in their tracks every time they try to pull.
    Bye.
  • Never heard of it. We bought a harness for 30 bucks.. It prevents lunging. They way it's set up they can't lung and passing cars or whatever. It won't give them the leverage they need.

Worked with Auzzy. I'm more worried about irritating her burn. With a harness I mean.
 LMFAO

Quite true actually, we used to have one of those for Savannah, it worked very well :D

  • I forgot about her burn...XD;
Well if its something you think'd work once her burn's all better, its worth it. It said "Stops Pulling INSTANTLY!" on the package, and I had my doubts...cause of the way they had said it. It sounded like a marketing scheme to me. But I figured I'd try it...its worth way more than the amount we paid for it. If it can stop a 11 pound dog that's pulled so hard he's pulled me over and snapped a leash...I'd say it works XD lmao. Pocco's a naughty boy.

Can you even imagine a little Papillon snapping a leash? I didn't believe it...

lmbo. That is strange. ^^ Little Pocco.. 0.o

Hrm.. *nods* The thing is, we don't know if it will clear up. She could have surgury on it. But it'd cost the shelter and it's only for looks(I forgot the name. And my dad, working for P&G. So sad.) So yeah. Some dogs have had it clear up, others haven't but she's proved it is still irritated flesh. We could always sew a rag or something over it so it's no the harness rubbing it.

^ yep! Ive got one of those. My dog is kinda big and he could pull me over. Now with the hanlti, he's a little angel! :D and dogs look wayyy cute in them
  • Some dogs have agression issues when on a leash. Maybe try her around other dogs off-leash? Laredo hates dogs when he's on a leash but off-leash he's alright with them.
