-Stupid People Problems-

I just recently received a foster that I am currently trying to rehabilitate. He has a ton of problems right now, it's already hard enough trying to train him, so I absolutely hate it when someone comes along and does something idiotic to ruin the progress we've made. It happens A LOT.

Soul is two years old. Which means that for two whole years he was physically and mentally abused almost every day. He didn't even have a name before I got him. -__- He was kept in an extra small dog kennel and fed just enough left overs to keep him alive. His owners had children that would beat him for fun. When my boss found him he was tied to a tree in a backyard, cowering and covered in paint from a PB gun. Apparently the children thought he was good target practice. Needless to say, he HATES kids. Today, while walking through a private area behind my home with Soul, a woman decided that it was okay for her child to run up to my dog. A dog she doesn't even know. She stood by and watched, all smiles, as her kid came bounding towards us whilst screaming and clapping her hands, even as we tried to get away. -__- Yes, Soul DID freak out. He is NOWHERE NEAR ready for this kind of encounter.

How can someone be so dense? Who lets their child run up screaming to an unfamiliar dog AND person?? Soul is fine.. he's not cowering in a corner or anything.. but this only helped build his fear of children. I've never worried that a foster of mine wouldn't find a good home, but Soul's definitely got me worried some. If I wasn't so sure about his over all potential, personality and adorableness... we'd be in trouble.

Anyway, this is Soul. Named after the most soulful eyes I have ever seen. <3

O.O He's gorgeous! I'd take him! XD

Unfortunate that some people can be that stupid. Pook is a good dog, but a no-nonsense one. We were taking her on the ferry one time, and a little boy runs up. He doesn't ask to pat her, same as that other kid, but doesn't even pat her! He starts hitting her! Amazing that Pook didn't bite.
The fact that they used him for target practice is disturbing.. I own an Airsoft gun, and have played paintball multiple times. Even if the gun is low FPS, it still stings!

Isn't he? I'm in love with his face. xD

Here's a picture of him and his new girlfriend, another one of my fosters named Baby. :D
And they're of the same breed! What're the odds??

Image

He was smitten the first time he laid eyes on her. They're already inseperable, which could be bad if they go to seperate homes. : / If you lived anywhere close to me instead of like, a thousand miles away (o.o), I would gladly give him to you. xD

Growing up with only brothers, I have definitely felt the sting of PB and AS guns alike.. which is why I almost cried when I first saw Soul. I can't even imagine how it would feel to get hit repeatedly, over a hundred times.. Ehh..

Pook is definitely a good dog. If a kid did that to Soul right now it would be a disaster. His adorable face is so misleading to children. When Soul snapped he looked like Cujo. O.o It even scared me.

I haven't been getting Pook's agility updates BTW. -...-

Oh my goodness! She's perfect for him, just as beautiful. I know how the seperation thing goes, we fostered a couple Peke's once. They were so close.. Any chance of you keeping them both? XD
What breed are they? At first I thought some sort of shepherd mix with Soul.

Ah, so you know. XD AS and PB are fun to play, but I hate to see them used like that.

How is he, alone with you? As sweet as his face looks?

But wow... That's scary to see a dog get like that. There's been a few come through the shelter, one long-haired dog, probably a chow. He lunged at anybody who walked by. I saw him once out in back, and never again. I have a feeling.. Then there was a bully out back, big white dog, he did get adopted, but under special conditions. I saw him take out the plastic divider in the kennel. O.o Came right off the track.

Ooo, sorry! I'll PM you soon..

No chance. :/ I have way too many dogs already and I can't commit to two dogs so young. Besides, I wouldn't have time to compete them, and they're already showing great potential, Soul in herding and Baby in agility. I want to get them adopted out to devoted competitors.

Alone, Soul is perfect. We had a slight issue with him growling at my boyfriend in the first week. But now that he's used to physical contact he no longer sees it as a bad thing and will let certain people come close. It's great progress. Although I hate that he's getting a little attached to me.. it makes it that much harder to let him go in the end. We had a slight problem with jealousy issues too. He tried to challenge Laru for my bed and was quickly put in place. : / That's over now.

Isn't the strength of a determined dog amazing?? I once fostered a Bully that broke through my wooden fence with one lunge, and took off. I went after him only to see some guy stop on the side of the road, grab the dog, and speed off. -__- If he wanted a Bully that bad he could've asked!! My first job was at the pound.. 'dangerous dogs' were brought in every day. A Rottie that was deemed vicious came in and was put in the wrong area. I walked right in to his kennel thinking he was just a normal stray. A coworker passed by and looked like she was about to have a heart attack when she saw me sitting next to the rottie giving him huggles. xD She tried to come in and he almost took her arm off. O.o I never had a problem with mean dogs. If they refused to be nice, I stick around until they get tired of being mean. xD

He is so amazingly cute x i'd take him, if i werent a million miles away, and didn't have annoying younger cousins who think that being naughty is good (she likes to try and dress dogs in her coats, her old dog let her and didn't mind at all and the new one is just mental). But he is cute and so is his girlfriend, you will have to try and get them a home together

Baby's been with me for six months so far. Soul for only one. She's rehabilitated and ready for adoption NOW, while he's got atleast four months of training left. Basically, her new owners could come along any day now, ready to take her, and I can't just say "If you take Baby you also have to take Soul, and you ALSO have to wait for four months." xD See how that doesn't work? Different dogs are in need of my services every day, I can't keep a dog that doesn't absolutely need to be here here for no reason. She will only take up space and money that could be going to the next foster waiting in line for his second chance. I'm trying my best, but the odds of them going together is really slim. : / Unless someone would actually agree to take Baby now then come back for Soul in a few months. -__- Worth a try...

Oh and lol @ "annoying younger cousins who think that being naughty is good".. we share the same cousins I think. O.o

*rumages arround for hiking shies* I'm coming to get ya Soul! It'll only take a year or two to walk to cali and then swim to Hawaii!!! I love him. He looks like a big fluffy s'more. I know! You can meet my sister in England and shove him in her duffle bagand she can give him to me! Perfect plan! I just need you to migrate to England...

You should use his owners for target practic *pulls out machine guns and sticky grenades* and that idiot mother too. I hate when people think my dog is public property. Emme wold never do anything, but don't touch her. The worst is when you're in the city and walking down the street and someone casually walks past rubbing their hand along your dogs back. I usually just do a front cross and it takes the stranger by surprise that an owner was actually with the dog -.- I *hate* people. I really do.

So send me your Soul and I shall heal it/him!

I usually only have the -strangers touching my dog- problem with my cute fosters like Soul; but when it comes to dogs like Laru and Riot people stay away.. they wouldn't dare touch a dog that looks like it can easily take off their arm. xD Like I told frosteh, I would give him to you in an instant as well, if I could.. I know both you and frost are trustworthy people sort of. :D You guys should just move to where I am. You know you wanna work for mah kennel. O_O I had a Border Collie named WISH come in a few weeks ago that you would have loved Em, she was a Lilac Merle w. Blue Eyes.. so gorgeous. And -so- fast on the field. She was adopted out fast too, and I'm expecting to see her as my competition next year. I was supposed to see YOU as my competition this year but then you decided to go and forget about Nationals and all.

The people that walk up and ask are the ones i let my dogs loose on. How dare you ask to rub your hands all over my sort of innocent animals!! You disgust me. Pervert.

I have no pictures. I didn't take a single one of her because I knew you'd like to see. Pervert status (x2).

Your situation is a lot like that of my newest horse, Romeo. He was mentally and physically abused for the majority of his life (he's almost 8) before he was just left in a field to die. He was rescued by chance and I've spent the past year rehabilitating him. He was TERRIFIED of anything that moved or looked strange in any way. If it wasn't grass, a rock, or dirt, he'd run.
I had made a milestone with him and he had stopped being afraid of the raising and flinging of a lead rope until a guy at my barn started scaring him with it. I've spent the past 2-3weeks desensitizing him to it. It's ridiculous how much common sense people can lack, especially when it comes to animals.
